About Us... Retained Duty System

There are 13 firefighters who work at Tarleton Fire Station to which all work the retained duty system. The crew consists of 1Unit Manager 2 Crew Managers and 10 Firefighters. The crew at Tarleton cover a range of hours per each individual from 40 to 120 hours per week. The maximum hours permissible for a 1 pump station is 1200.The availability is recorded on our electronic recording system.The Crew at Tarleton are active carrying out Home Fire Safety Checks in the Communities of Tarleton Hesketh Bank, Banks, Mere Brow, Holmeswood, Rufford, Bretherton and Hoole. Responsibilities

Unit Manager /Watch Manager

The responsibilities of the unit manager are the general day to day running of the station. To organize and implement practical and theoretical training sessions and attend service meetings. This information is then  disseminated to the crews. Station administration duties,  take up positions on service working parties to resolve implement new procedures and plan home fire safety checks.To maintain standards of competence through training and oversee the responsibilities and welfare  of the crew managers and firefighters. Liaise with the service managers and of course respond to emergency calls as officer in charge of a fire appliance and incidents.

Crew Manager

The responsibilities of the crew managers are to ensure that all the station area water routes are correct, org anise and implement practical and theoretical training sessions. Maintain appliance and equipment, station maintenance and  station risk logs are up to date. The welfare and benevolent fund activates are maintained, maintain standards of competence through training sessions. Oversee the the responsibilities and welfare of firefighters and of course respond to emergency calls.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Firefighter

  • Attend operational incidents as part of a team in accordance with LFRS Service Policy.
    Comply with all LFRS Service Policy, guiding frameworks and legal requirements.
  • Contribute to the Health & Safety of self and others in the workplace.
  • Monitor, test and record equipment and resources to maintain operational readiness.
  • Create and maintain a good working relationship with colleagues and contribute to decision-making for the effectiveness of the team.
  • Understand, demonstrate and support an awareness of Equality and Diversity, and others’ behavioral,
    physical, social and welfare needs.
  • Take responsibility for personal performance and attend training courses and meetings to support
    self-development as required to meet organisational objectives.
  • Contribute to caring for the environment.
  • Contribute to local initiatives that may arise from the Station, Watch and local community in pursuit of
    organisation objectives.
  • Inform and educate the community to improve awareness of all safety matters.
