1950's

Mr John Johnson was appointed Sub Officer in charge with twelve firemen, but Mr Hodge continued to operate the siren until 1950 when call bells were fitted in the firemen's houses and operated by sub Officer Johnson from his home. This system continued until 1955 when the whole system was remote controlled from Southport.

In 1953 an Auxiliary Fire Service complement of approximately eight men was formed and although these men were volunteers they turned out to fires with the retained men but in their own green machine. On Home Office instructions the Auxiliary Fire Service was disbanded in 1967.
