1960 Fire Crew

In 1961,1962 and 1963 the Tarleton Firemen won the Lancashire County Fire Brigade Major
Pump competition drills which was a real feather in their caps. The crew in the picture are
Sub O John Johnson, LFM Jimmy Lathom, LFM Ernie Nicholson, FM John Ward,  FM Henry Brooks, FM Alan Sutton, FM George Barron ADO Bill Whiley.

In 1963 Sub Officer Johnson retired and Mr Ernie Nicholson was promoted to Sub Officer in charge.

 


To the delight of Sub Officer Nicholson and the firemen a new Bedford water tender fire engine was given to them in 1966.

In August 1968 the fire station was pulled down and a temporary station was made at Cheetham's Garage Hesketh Lane, Tarleton. The present fire station, which was officially opened in June 1970.
